About Jackson, TN

Jackson, Tennessee, is a lively, vibrant community of about 85,000 people in the western part of the state.

Jackson is easily accessible by highways Tennessee 20, U.S. Highways 45 and 70, and Interstate 40. Lambuth is within driving distance of several major U.S. cities such as Memphis, TN (1 hour), Nashville, TN (2 hours), Atlanta, GA (4 hours), and St. Louis, MO (5 hours).

While Jackson offers Lambuth students plenty of entertainment options and opportunities for part-time work, summer jobs, and internships, it is also home to much more.

Athletics

Jackson is proud of our Double-A minor league baseball team, the Diamond Jaxx, which is an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Each 70-home game season runs April through September at the popular 6,200-seat stadium, Pringles Park.

Festivals

As home of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame Museum, it's no surprise that Jackson's Rockabilly Festival is a popular August event featuring approximately 150 artists/bands who provide about 32 hours of music during the event weekend.

Shannon Street Blues Fest is an annual celebration of the blues that builds on Jackson's musical heritage and attracts nationally known blues artists. A fund-raiser for Jackson Downtown Development Corporation, the Fest draws nearly 5,000 patrons into downtown and includes a barbecue cooking contest and 5K run.

Held each October at the McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport in Jackson, Skyfest Tennessee features high performance aircraft and has become one of the best air show events in Tennessee.

Culture

The Jackson Symphony offers classical and pops concerts, as well as several free events throughout the season including the Starlight Symphony, an open-air concert on the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.

The Jackson Arts Council promotes local arts organizations and makes them accessible to the entire community. The Arts Council is located in the beautiful Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center in downtown Jackson. Some of the active arts groups in Jackson include Ballet Arts, the Jackson Art Association, the Jackson Writers' Group, and the Jackson Theatre Guild.

Cool Places

Pinson Mounds State Archeological Park is one of the largest Middle Woodland ceremonial sites in the United States, constructed from 1 to 500 A.D. It features of 12 ceremonial and burial mounds including the 72-foot Sauls Mound, which is the second highest in the United States.

The city parks of Jackson are pretty cool, if we do say so ourselves. Muse Park covers 100 acres of downtown and is a popular place to have fun and enjoy the seasons.
