Community Service Opportunities
Community Service Opportunities
"Everybody can be great because anybody can serve."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Lambuth University is committed to the service of others. Community service opportunities strive to meet the university mission of the "pursuit... of Christian stewardship and service." The Office of Student Development, the Office of Church Relations, and members of faculty and staff work to provide a variety of service opportunities for students and other members of the Lambuth Community.
Students have the opportunity to join service projects and groups that have already formed, or they can work with the Director of Service Learning, Shirley Consuegra, to create an individualized service experience.
Community Plunge
All new students participate in three hours of community service during their first semester at Lambuth. Students have the opportunity to fulfill this service component during New Student Orientation. The Orientation Program features the "Community Plunge," an afternoon program dedicated to serving the community. New students can choose from 10 service locations. Different projects include working with children, clean-up projects, building projects, working with elderly, and more.
Love Lambuth Day
Lambuth organizations join together for a day of community service each year. Students can choose from a variety of service opportunities.
Operation Snack Food
Operation Snack Food is a new project, directed by the Psychology Club. Through cooperation of student organizations, Lambuth students raise money to provide after school snacks for children at the Boys and Girls Club. The money raised by the students is matched with donations from local businesses and churches. In addition to raising money, students sponsor many activities and programs for the children.
Phi Sigma Eta
This organization is a local service sorority open to all Christian women at Lambuth. The purpose of the organization is to promote leadership and service among the women of Lambuth University.
Alternative Spring Break
Spend your spring break making a difference to others. Lambuth students travel to service sights during the March break and complete building projects, meet new people, and learn about themselves and others.
Student Organization Activities
Community Service is a key component of the yearly activities and events of student organizations. In addition to the other university service programs, many Lambuth organizations sponsor other service activities during the school year. Popular programs include: the Halloween Carnival, the Be-A-Sport Auction for the United Way, canned food drives, clothing drives, and blood mobiles.
Greek Organization Projects
Philanthropy and service are an integral part of Lambuth University's Greek community. Each spring, Panhellenic Council raises over $1,500 for local charities with its annual "All-Sing" competition. Throughout the year, each individual sorority and fraternity completes projects to raise money for their chosen organizations. Some philanthropies include: MDA, Youth Town, the American Heart Association, and LeBonheur Hospital. Can shakes, teeter-totter marathons, kiss-the-pig contests, bake sales, and book drives are just some of the ways Greek Organizations combine fun and service.
