School of Education
The School of Education provides professional training for elementary, secondary, and special education teachers and prepares students for graduate study and research in education. Lambuth offers teacher candidates 11 certification areas.
Exceptional Learning
Within this major are a Modified Program and Comprehensive Program for Special Education which include extensive opportunities for hands-on experiences and appropriate coursework to help students prepare to teach children with exceptional needs. There is also a Speech and Language licensure program available for students who have or are working towards a master's degree in speech pathology.
Interdisciplinary Studies (K-8)
This major is designed for students who plan to teach children in elementary grades. This degree is awarded K-8 licensure and courses provide students with knowledge of children's physical, intellectual, psychological, and social development.
Secondary Education
Lambuth is accredited by the State of Tennessee Department of Education to certify teachers for grades 7-12 in Biology, Chemistry, English, History, and Mathematics and in grade K-12 in Art, Physical Education, Instrumental Music, and Vocal Music.
Health and Human Performance
Four majors are offered by the Department of Health and Human Performance:
Athletic Training
This major helps prepare students for a career in sports medicine and includes coursework in core sciences, therapeutic modalities and exercise, and the evaluation and prevention of sports injuries.
Physical Education
For students who want to teach physical education or coach athletics at an elementary or secondary school level, this program offers coursework that prepares students for certification in physical education by the State of Tennessee.
Human Performance
This broad major gives students the background they need to seek graduate education in fields such as: exercise, physiology, physical therapy, wellness, etc.
Recreation and Sports Management
Designed for students who seek a career in the business of human performance, the Recreation and Sports Management program includes an internship and coursework in general business management and marketing courses as part of the curriculum.
